TEAM SCOTLAND 2026

TEAM SCOTLAND
We’re delighted to introduce the young Scottish beekeepers who will be representing Scotland at the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB) this year in Belfast in July, they are…
Leah from Lanark and a member of Lanarkshire Beekeepers’ Association. Leah has been beekeeping for 5 years with Mum, Alison. Leah was one of Team Scotland at IMYB 2024 in Dubai and took part in the Home Nations Event in Belfast 2025. Also, Leah was voted ‘SBA Young Beekeeper of the Year 2025’, a very well-deserved Award. Leah says about IMYB, she loved the sense of community and made friends that she is still in touch with. At the meeting she learned about beekeeping practices from round the world, gained in experience and found confidence that she didn’t know she had. She’s looking forward to meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones at IMYB 2026.
Lameece from Dumfries and a member of South of Scotland Beekeepers’ Association. Lameece has been beekeeping with her Dad, Abdullah, since she was 7 years old. Together they run between 2 and 5 hives. Lameece’s beekeeping started as a hobby with Dad and daughter working together. It now keeps them busy during the beekeeping season and their bees provide honey for friends and neighbours. Lameece loves learning about bees, planning what needs to be done at the apiary, handling the bees and swarm catching. She is looking forward to meeting YBs, making new friends at IMYB and learning about new beekeeping practices from around the world.
Boyd from Dalbeattie and a member of South of Scotland Beekeepers’ Association. Boyd keeps bees with Grampa Alistair, who had wanted to keep bees for years. So, when Boyd became interested in bees too, they went to their ABA classes at Beespace and began the adventure of beekeeping together. Boyd decided he’d like to keep bees after seeing a video of beekeepers collecting a swarm. He’d been generally interested in ‘bugs’, so keeping bees seemed an ideal challenge to take on. As Alistair wanted the same, joining forces, Grampa and grandson learning together, was the answer. Boyd finds the bees fascinating and loves observing them. He’s keen to go to IMYB to meet YBs, learn more about beekeeping and test out his own ‘beezy’ knowledge.
And not forgetting the Team’s Leader and our Young Beekeeper Trustee, Bron Wright, and her deputy Michelle Berry who are preparing the Team and will be with them and supporting all the way!
IMYB is the largest international meeting of young beekeepers worldwide and this four day event sees teams from over 20 countries participate. The participants, aged 12 to 18 years, are divided into mixed country teams where they are tested on both their theoretical and practical knowledge. Scores for individuals and each country are also collated and the winners presented at the end of the tournament. The most important aspect of the whole event is for everyone to meet new friends and understand more about the participating countries and their cultures, so a win win for all!
If you know of or have young beekeepers who would like to be involved in future young beekeeper events then please ask them to get in touch.
