Scottish Government EFB Heat Map

European Foulbrood (EFB) Heatmap of Scotland
The Scottish Government’s Honey Bee Health Team have produced a heatmap which shows the current understanding of the distribution of EFB in Scotland. Inspection records on BeeBase were used to map areas where there have been confirmed cases of EFB from 2021 to 2023.
The aim is to highlight higher-risk areas where particular care should be taken when moving bees into or out of the most affected areas. We also recommend actions beekeepers can take to help minimise the spread of this disease and help ensure a healthy population of honey bees.
As EFB is a notifiable disease under The Bee Diseases and Pests Control (Scotland) Order 2007 (as amended), it is a legal requirement to notify the Scottish Government’s Honey Bee Health Team If you suspect you have EFB in your hives.
