TEAM SCOTLAND 2024
TEAM SCOTLAND
We’re delighted to introduce the young Scottish beekeepers who will be representing Scotland at the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB) this year in Dubai in December, they are…
Leah Buchanan from Lanark and a member of Lanarkshire Beekeepers’ Association. Leah has been keeping bees for 2.5 years and has passed her Basic Beekeeping Certificate. She is super excited to visit Dubai as she believes it’s an incredible opportunity to learn and connect with others passionate about beekeeping.
Lucy Campbell from Kelso and a member of Borders Beekeeping Association. Lucy has been keeping bees for 5 years and has gained the SQA National Progression Award (Level 5) in Beekeeping. Lucy thinks IMYB will be the highlight of her year and something that will further her beekeeping skills and be remembered for years to come!
Blair Henderson from Livingston and a member of Edinburgh and Midlothian Beekeepers’ Association. Blair has also been keeping bees for 2.5 years and passed his Basic Beekeeping Certificate. He knows this will be a great opportunity to learn and explore Dubai’s methods of keeping bees and
harvesting the hives’ product.
And not forgetting the Team’s Leader and our Young Beekeeper Trustee, Bron Wright, and her deputy and fellow SBA Trustee, Jacqui Ferguson who are preparing the Team and will be with them and supporting all the way!
IMYB is the largest international meeting of young beekeepers worldwide and this four day event sees teams from 20 countries participate. The participants, aged 12 to 18 years, are divided into mixed country teams where they are tested on both their theoretical and practical knowledge. Scores for individuals and each country are also collated and the winners presented at the end of the tournament. The most important aspect of the whole event is for everyone to meet new friends and understand more about the participating countries and their cultures, so a win win for all!
If you know of any beekeepers in Dubai or have young beekeepers who would like to be involved in future young beekeeper events then please reply to this email.
