small hive beetle

At the SBA Council Meeting on Saturday 15 November, members present indicated that they would like the strongest possible action to be taken to prevent access of the Small Hive Beetle, Aethina tumida, into Scotland.

As a result, the Executive Committee agreed at their meeting on Saturday 29 November, that the following request be made to the Scottish Government.

'The SBA urges that all possible measures are taken to prevent the introduction of small hive beetle into the UK. These should include a cessation of trade in live bees from the rest of Europe for 2015 until the true spread of the pest is better known.'

A letter with this request has been sent to Scottish Government.
